Impetus
My work provided me with a Lenovo T61p
laptop in April of 2008. This is my experience with it to date.
Ordering
I started by checking out the pre-configured machines at newegg.com but ended up ordering it at lenovo.com.
Add your ideal configuration to the cart since, at the time, there were some amazing "The more you buy
the more you save"-branded discounts that I only saw once it was added Lenovo if by some miracle you
read this, that is bad).
Shipping
"UPS Ground"* from mainland China which surprised me since I figured it would be assembled
in the US.. It flew by way of Alaska and ended up in my hands on a Monday morning exactly 2 weeks after
I ordered it. Before it left China the tracking info noted that it was rerouted because it was sorted
incorrectly.
* Not much ground between the US and China... but, whatever
Comments
I've been using this laptop for over a year now and overall its been great. Because of the large screen
the battery life is only a couple of hours. Granted I always run it with max performance and the screen
brightness turned all the way up. It does lock up hard about once a month for some reason or another.
Most computers bought "off the shelf" are packed with tons of bloat-ware and this model is no different.
I did not wipe the drive and do a clean install. Coming up on a year I figure it's time for a re-install.
One change to the order would be a larger hard drive. I am also suprised at how much I use the pointing
stick. It makes so much sense even on a desktop since you don't have to reach for the mouse all the
time.
